WHERE DOES "ROPE HOLDER" COME FROM?

Historians often refer to William Carey as the “father of the modern missionary movement.” When Carey left the shores of Britain for India in 1793, he said to his friend Andrew Fuller, “I’ll go down into the pit, if you hold the ropes.” Fuller served Carey’s missionary efforts until his death in 1814 by travelling throughout the British Isles, raising funds and preaching on missions. Carey and his associates in India could focus on their ministry in the field because they knew Fuller was “holding the ropes” by advocating for them back home.

As Rope Holder with ELLS International, your monthly partnership “holds the ropes” for our trainers as they travel to remote places throughout the developing world to help equip pastors, strengthen churches, and advance the gospel. Together, we are doing our part in helping to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission of teaching and discipling all the nations of the earth! (Matt. 28:16-20).

ELLS International is a Christian and evangelical, faith-based 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by the law. Contributions are solicited with the understanding that ELLS International has complete discretion and control over the use of all donated funds.
